BCB on Wednesday appointed left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak as the new national selector. The seasoned spinner, who bagged 279 international wickets, is yet to announce his retirement from competitive cricket. In an immediate reaction, Razzak said it’s a new challenge for him.

“It’s true that the responsibility of this job is high. It’s a big challenge for me. I’ll give my best to fulfil my duty,” the spinner, who played 200 international matches for the Tigers told the media.

“It’s a job of immense pressure. Since cricket is the most popular sports in Bangladesh, a selector has to work keeping this truth in mind. Everyone will have an eye on every selector,” he added.

After a four-year gap, Abdur Razzak played his last Test in 2018 against Sri Lanka in Dhaka which remains his last international match. He got his first international cap with an ODI against Hong Kong in 2004 in Sri Lanka.

Razzak was a regular face in ODIs as he represented the Tigers in 153 matches and took 207 wickets. Along the way, he became Bangladesh’s first bowler to take more than 200 wickets in a single format of international cricket. He played 13 Tests and 34 T20Is as well.
