Abahani, MSC eye to reach quarters

Reigning champions Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) and runner-up Abahani Krira Chakra will play their respective second match in the Federation Cup at different venues in the country today. 

MSC will take on former two-time champions Brothers Union at 2:45 p.m. at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium, Gopalganj while Abahani will face off Chittagong Abahani at the same time at Bashundhara Kings Arena Stadium in Group B on today. 

Mohammedan won their first encounter against Chittagong Abahani by 2-1 at Goplaganj on January 16. Mohammedan won the match against CHT Abahani after coming from a goal down.  

Mohammedan SC certainly will try to confirm their quarterfinal room while Brothers Union, who were brushed aside to Abahani Limited by 6-0, will try to bounce back, at least to remain on the quarterfinal race.   

Meanwhile, Abahani who are on the top position in their group, are very confident to win the match against the Port City club. 

After two weeks Abahani is going to play at the same venue. Abahani’s Argentine coach Andres Cruciani expected his team would overcome against Chittagong Abahani to seal the quarterfinal berth. 

Abahani are looking forward to their star performers, Nabib Newaj Jibon, Washington Brandão and Cornelius Stewart, who can damage any team. The trio have every ability to change the scenario of any match at any time.   

Chittagong Abahani started their their Federation Cup tournament with defeat when they lost to Mohammedan SC by 2-1in Goplaganj. 

Chittagong Abahani have no option but to win to remain in the race of quarterfinal. Coach Mahbubul Haque Jewel expected they would fight against the title holders.
