The passionate fans of two Bengales are highly excited to watch the battle of the giants of Bangladesh Abahani Limited and the Mohu Bagan Super Giant of India.
Mohun Bagan Super Ginat will host Abahani Limited in their AFC Cup encounter today at the Salt Lake Stadium Kolkata, the match will take place at 7pm.
It will be a stiff hurdle to cross for Abahani Limited, the traditional giants of Bangladesh football when they will face off Mohun Bagan Super Giant to move into the second round of the AFC Cup.
Meanwhile, to play the match a 27-member of Abahani Limited reached Kolkata on Monday in two different flights when the first contingent left Dhaka at morning and second at 12 noon, though they have scheduled to go on Sunday but due to complete the Visa formalities, they missed the flight. However, Abahani had their only practice session yesterday evening at the Salt Lake Stadium where the AFC match will take place.
Abahani, who moved into the second round defeating Club Eagle of Maldives by 2-1 on August 16 at home ground, now they will have to take the big challenge of Indian Super League champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant moved into the second round defeating Machhindra FC of Nepal by 3-1 at their home ground.
Abahani Limited, who have been playing in the AFC Cup since 2017, have some gratifying memory when they qualified in the inter-regional semifinal in 2019, defeated former finalist North Korean April 25 by 4-3 at home ground.
In 2019, Abahani also have an impressive result defeating Minarva Club of India in home and away on their way to inter-regional semifinal.
Despite having some inspiring experiences of playing 22 matches in the AFC Cup with seven wins and five draws, they could not defeat Mohun Bagan Super Giant for once in their last three meetings in the AFC Cup since 2017.
Abahani could only draw their home match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium Dhaka by 1-1 when they suffered two defeats at the Salt Lake Stadium Kolkata by 3-1 each.
In the last five matches, Mohun Bagan won three and suffered two when Abahani Limited won three drew one and lost one.
