Abahani edge past Muktijoddah in BPL opener

By virtue of an early goal from Dorielton Abahani Limited narrowly escaped with full three points in their opener of the TVS Bangladesh Premier Football League with a solitary goal win against Muktijoddah Sangsad Krira Chakra on Friday.

Held at the Shahid Ahsan Ullah Master Stadium, Tongi, the six times champions of the Professional Football League and now the third positioned, in a bid to regain the title had to struggle much to have the winning start. 

In their last season’s meetings, Abahani won in the first leg and Muktijoddah overwhelmed Abahani in the second leg with 4-2 won.   

Abahani made a very impressive start in the match with Brazilian Dorielton led the Sky-Blue in the very 12th minute and rest of the 88 minutes, despite dominating the game on the rain-socked ground failed to increase the winning margin. 

In the other match of the day, held at the Bir Sreshtha Flight Lt. Matiur Rhaman Stadium, Munshiganj, Saif Sporting Club also made their journey with a solitary goal win against Bangladesh Police.

Saif Sporting, one of the top ranked in the league table and the day’s favourites also narrowly avoided defeat when had to struggle to score the goal up injury period of 90 minutes game. 

Eemery Bayisenge of Rwanda sstruck the all important goal for Saif Sporting.
