Defending champions Abahani Limited dominated Gazi Group Cricketers in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL), securing a convincing 171-run victory at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium on Thursday.
Electing to bat first, Abahani piled up a massive score. Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto (101) led the charge with a century, while Anamul Haque (68) and Towhid Hridoy (58*) provided crucial support. Despite a solid opening partnership (57 runs), Abahani lost Mohammad Naim early (33). Shanto and Anamul steadied the innings before a flurry of middle-order runs propelled Abahani to a commanding 343 for 5.
Gazi Group's chase crumbled from the start. Their top order faltered, collapsing before reaching even 100 runs. Only Sabbir Hossain (62) offered significant resistance, with Habibur Rahman Sohan (38) chipping in with some support. Abahani's bowlers maintained the pressure, led by Rakibul Hasan's impressive four-wicket haul (4-44). Gazi Group were eventually bowled out for 172 in 35.1 overs, handing Abahani a comprehensive victory.
Nazmul Hossain Shanto was deservedly named Player of the Match for his magnificent century. In other DPL matches, Mohammedan Sporting Club and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club also secured victories.
