A team from the Aviation and Aerospace University, Bangladesh (AAUB) is set to take part in the final phase of the prestigious CanSat Competition 2025, organised by the American Astronautical Society (AAS). The final launch event will be held in Virginia, USA, from  June 5 to 9 . The team, named ‘Ababil’, was scheduled to leave Dhaka on 2 June 2025.

This marks a proud moment for Bangladesh’s aerospace research sector as Team Ababil prepares to showcase the country’s first-ever CanSat — a miniature satellite the size of a soda can — on an international stage. The journey began in December 2024, with a group of enthusiastic students from AAUB taking on the ambitious mission to design, build, and launch this satellite.

Throughout the competition phases, Team Ababil achieved remarkable success. They scored an impressive 98.2% in the Preliminary Design Review, securing the 6th position globally. After successfully passing the Critical Design Review, the team also submitted environmental testing reports to prove the CanSat’s ability to perform in real-world conditions.

The CanSat project tested crucial systems such as autonomous descent, sensor integration, payload deployment, and telemetry. With these milestones completed, Team Ababil is now ready to demonstrate the satellite’s full operational capability during the final phase.

University authorities said that the success so far was made possible due to the dedicated leadership of the Vice Chancellor and the continuous support of faculty members. Several organizations, including GoldHill Alliance, Sincos Automation Technology Ltd, Square Informatix Ltd, MDM Traders Ltd, and ZSRM, provided financial assistance for the team’s participation.

AAUB officials expressed hope that this initiative will open new doors for Bangladesh in the field of space technology and aerospace research.
