Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan has said that a vested group is working against Bangla cinema to stop its progress. He made this remark on Sunday evening at a special screening of his latest film Taandob, held at Sony Cineplex in the capital.

At the event, Shakib Khan said, “Bangla cinema is now reaching audiences across the world with pride. When our films are doing well, a group has started a conspiracy to destroy this success. The movies which are performing well are being targeted for piracy. This is not just against our cinema — it’s a conspiracy against the country.”

Sixteen days after its release, Shakib Khan watched Taandob in theatres for the first time. Before the show, he spoke to the media. He added, “A nation becomes rich through its culture. As we are moving forward with our cinema and cultural identity, piracy attacks are taking place. We saw it with Borbaad, and now Taandob was pirated even earlier.”

However, despite piracy issues, Taandob continues to attract audiences. Shakib Khan thanked the viewers and authorities for their support. He said, “I thank the audience who still go to theatres to watch the film, even after it was pirated. Our shows are still running houseful. This is the resistance from our people. To save our cinema, everyone must raise their voice and stand against piracy.”

The event was attended by Taandob director Raihan Rafi, producer Shahriar Shakil, Redoan Rony, Gazi Rakayet, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Sabila Nur, A K Azad Setu, Salahuddin Lavlu, Sumon Anwar, Mukit Zakaria and many others from the film industry.
