Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman and his wife Saira Banu are separating after 29 years of marriage, their lawyer confirmed on Tuesday. The couple made the difficult decision to part ways due to "significant emotional strain in their relationship," as stated by their divorce lawyer Vandana Shah.

The statement, issued on behalf of Rahman and Banu, highlighted that despite their deep love for one another, the ongoing tensions and difficulties had created a gap that neither party felt able to bridge. The couple, who married in 1995, are parents to three children: daughters Khatija and Raheema, and son Ameen.

The couple's son, Ameen, shared a message on Instagram requesting privacy, saying, "We kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this time. Thank you for your understanding." Both Rahman and Banu have expressed their deep pain and agony over the separation, urging the public for privacy and understanding as they navigate this challenging chapter in their lives.

Rahman, 57, reflected on the emotional turmoil through a tweet, expressing hope for reaching the 30th milestone but acknowledging the unseen end that life brings. "We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again," he wrote.

Banu initially shared the news of the separation, which was later followed by a joint statement from the couple. Despite their decision to separate, they have asked for their family's privacy to be respected during this difficult time.
