Published : 16 Mar 2020 10:13 PM | Updated : 07 Sep 2020 12:35 PM

Political leaders, educationalists, economists and cultural personalities have recalled the role of Banbabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the independence and development of Bangladesh on the eve of his birth centenary. While talking to Bangladesh Post on Monday, a day before the birth centenary, many of them said they are so lucky to see Bangabandhu and commented that a great leader like him never dies.

Bangabandhu gifted us independence

 Jamilur Reza Choudhury
Bangabandhu was a great leader. He gifted us independence. We are lucky to have his company. But, it was unbelievable that his life met with a tragedy. We are working to materialise his dream and we will full all of his dreams.

People are lucky to get Bangabandhu

Muntasir Mamun

I believe the present and the previous generations are very lucky in the sense that they are witness to Bangabandhu pursuing flourishing politics, uniting people and creating history. We are witness to history that Bangabandhu instituted. Despite efforts to erase Bangabandhu’s name and his achievements during Ershad, Zia and Khaleda eras, we are still part of Bangabandhu’s journey seeking political freedom. It is a privilege to be able to witness the birth centenary of Bangabandhu. I personally feel that no generation has ever been so lucky to witness so many significant (political) events in such a short span of time.

We are all very excited

Dr Kamal Hossain
We are all very excited to celebrate the Mujib Barsho. In fact, we should be so proud of his sacrifices and the struggle for freedom of the nation and the unprecedented roles he played in the non-violent movement just for the people of the nation he loved so much. We definitely recognise his roles as the great leader and celebrate. Bangabandhu was an uncompromising leader while at the same time he had the qualities of uniting people of all walks of life so easily and cordially. Everyone felt that they were very close to Bangabandhu.

Sheikh Mujib was a great leader

Mirza Fakhrul

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a great leader. He had great roles in the War of Liberation and the independence of Bangladesh. I myself and my party BNP want that his birth centenary programme to become successful. I also pray peace for his departed soul.

Greatest son of the millennium

AK Abdul Momen

We are very lucky to get the opportunity to celebrate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu. We are grateful to people because we get this opportunity as they have elected us. Bangabandhu is the greatest son in the millennium. Because of him, we have become independent, got a sovereign country, a national flag and respect. He did not stop with freeing the country only. As the Father of the Nation, he laid the foundation of the country and instructed us to build a powerful Golden Bangla. In Mujib Year, our expectation is to materialise his dream of building a Golden Bangla -- a developed, prosperous, stable, non-communal Golden Bangla, where all people will have access to food, clothes, homes, healthcare and medical care.

Bangabandhu, independence inseparable

AAMS Arefin Siddique

Bangladesh's independence got linked with Bangabandhu since the very day he was born on March 17, 1920. He earned us independence in phases by dint of his personality and leadership quality. He is the only one leader who had led the nation from 1948 to 1971. The political history of Bangabandhu and the history of Bangladesh are inseparable.

Bangabandhu is the hero of history

Mujahidul Islam Selim

Bangabandhu is the hero of history. He started politics with the Muslim League. But he later moved to liberal democracies. He was ahead in the same way until his death. He pursued middle-class nationalist politics, but was never alienated from the people. That was his greatest vitality. And because of this he was able to unite the people in the War of Liberation, regardless of parties.

We are fortunate to have Bangabandhu

Muhammad Zamir

We are fortunate to have had Bangabandhu, the Father of the Nation, with us for the last 100 years. He has been the guiding star for the entire people of Bangladesh to move forward with self-belief and achieve the vision, which led Bangabandhu to declare independence of Bangladesh in 1971. Bangabandhu helped us not only to promote our social and cultural values, but also overcome the challenges that we have faced over the last 49 years.

Bangabandhu synonymous with Bangladesh

Ataur Rahman

Bangabandhu is, in fact, synonymous with Bangladesh. I have seen Bangabandhu from afar. He was a born leader who could inspire his fellow countrymen and women with a dream. The specialty of Mujib’s character was his uncompromising fighting leadership with a generous heart. I feel extremely blessed that I can celebrate the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu. Celebrating Mujib Borsho at this age is very joyous. He remains alive in people's hearts and lingers in their memories.

Bangabandhu’ s birth centenary big occasion

Syed Manzoorul Islam

It was very clear Bangladesh would not be able to secure independence without Bangabandhu. His birth centenary is a big occasion of celebrations for us. The celebrations do not mean just playing music or giving speech. If we cannot embrace his ideology, there will be no benefit. Have we been able to embrace it? I don't think so. If we talk less and work more on Bangabandhu’s ideology, it will be better for this country.

Without Bangabandhu, independence was impossible

Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled

Had Bangabandhu not been born, this country would not have come into being. The nation had never been united without his call. He is the only leader who had united the entire nation and led it to war. This is a great multiplication of his leadership. Bangabandhu talked about many principles. Some of them are being obeyed, but some are not. He was the proponent of Bengali nationalism.

He is much more than that we say about him

Abdul Kader Siddique

We, among those who are still alive, are not fit to say anything about Bangabandhu, his birth centenary and the Mujib Barsho. Bangabandhu is not what we are saying about him. He is much more than that we are saying about him or doing centring him. The arrangement centring the celebrations of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and inauguration of Mujib Barsho is not adequate. All the functions, programmes and arrangement should have been much more magnificent.

Great patriot like Bangabandhu never dies

Mamunur Rashid
It is indeed terrible misfortune that a great statesman like Bangabandhu had to die in the hands of none other than his own people. But people should realise that great patriot like Bangabandhu does not die. Though, coronavirus might affect Mujib Barsho celebrations, nevertheless it is good to see the wholehearted cooperation from all to participate in the programmes spontaneously and making it a grand success.

He was an institution

Pijush Bandyopadhyay

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the Bengali nation, is not a mere individual. He is an institution. He gifted us a disciplined nation. He is a friend to the masses. He is the essence of epic poetry and he is history. The future will call him the superman of eternal time. And, he will live, in luminosity reminiscent of a bright star, in historical legends.

Bangabandhu worked for all people

Debapriya Bhattacharya

It is our good luck that a leader like Bangabandhu was born in this country. We have to be careful so that we do not deviate from this ideology. Bangabandhu worked for all people. He fought against corruption and maladministration. We should embrace that ideology to move the country forward.

We are a lucky  generation

Selima Ahmad, MP

We are a lucky generation because we had the opportunity to see Bangabandhu. Bangladesh would have attainted economic emancipation much earlier had not Bangabandhu been murdered. Women in the country have been able to advance as he gifted us with a constitution formulated with farsightedness.

He contributed most to liberation

KM Shafiullah
Bangabandhu had contributed the most to the liberation of this country. But he left us untimely leaving us in great sadness. However, Bangabandhu is always with us spiritually as the guiding force. His motivation will help our next generation to be on the right path.

He was firm believer in secularism

Kumar Bishwajit
Bangabandhu believed in nationalism, democracy, secularism and socialism. He was also a firm believer in the rich cultural and literary heritage of Bangladesh and for him that was the springboard of the Bengali ethos, its tradition and its nationalism. That instilled into him the pride of being a Bengali living in Sonar Bangla. Bangabandhu is our dreamer. The 17th March is a blessed day for us. Bangabandhu gave us a nation, gave us a free state, gave us a language. Let’s contribute ourselves to the growth and development of Bangladesh as a tribute to Bangabandhu.
