Dulal Krishna Saha, executive chairman (Secretary) of the National Skills Development Authority said that at present 5 to 7 lakh foreign workers are working in the garment sector alone.
“Skilled manpower is not being created in our country in the same way as employment resources are being created. As a result, a lot of money is going out of the country,” he added.
He made the remarks while speaking at a press conference titled 'Bangabandhu National Skills Competition 2021' at Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) auditorium in the capital on Sunday.
“The people of our country are working abroad as we are not being able to provide them with a good job in the country. Therefore, we want to reduce the dependence of foreign skilled manpower by creating skilled manpower in the country. This will save the local currency,” he said.
Dulal Krishna Saha said that 100 economic zones are being created in the country.
“We need a lot of manpower here. Many jobs are also being created in the garment and leather industries. However, we are not being able to create skilled manpower,” he further said.
In the context of achieving growth and creating skilled manpower, he said, “If we can create skilled manpower, growth will increase further. One crore skilled manpower is required to retain the domestic resources. In order to maintain the growth, productivity of workers must be increased.”
