With his God-gifted talent and parents-instilled philanthropic nature, Dr. Misbahul Ferdous, a Bangladeshi cardiologist stationed at Fuwai Hospital in Beijing, has made Bangladesh proud in China.

The Bangladeshi cardiologist has recently been named on the list of top 10 foreign young leaders of the Global Young Leaders Dialogue (GYLD) 2022, a prestigious award for the young professionals of the world initiated by China.

Jointly initiated by the Center for China and Globalization (CCG) and the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies (ACCWS), the GYLD is a unique platform for young achievers with diverse backgrounds from across the globe.

With the theme of Global Community of Development, the GYLD called for innovative proposals for global development from international young professionals.

More than 100 proposals were submitted by young people from 44 countries, covering five topics including poverty reduction and inclusive development, the COVID-19 fight, and public health.

Among them, 10 proposals submitted by 11 foreign youths were selected as the best nominees. One of the top proposals was made by the Bangladeshi cardiologist Misbah. He suggested a mobile phone app gathering data on post-Covid symptoms to improve treatment.

The Bangladeshi doctor attended the awards-giving ceremony online on Friday evening. The members of the Bangladeshi community in Beijing are proud of the achievement of their fellow countryman. Many congratulated Dr. Misbah on social media platforms for his brilliant feat.

Earlier, Doctor Misbah was conferred the ‘Belt and Road Friendship Award 2020’ for his humanitarian work during the COVID-19 pandemic both in China and Bangladesh.

Amid much festivity, the award was handed over to Dr. Ferdous at the ‘China Cardiovascular Convention 2020’ at the National Conference Center in Beijing.

A total of 1,300 cardiologists from across China joined the convention cum awards-giving ceremony in the Chinese capital.

A man from Cox's Bazar, Dr. Misbahul Ferdous, during the pandemic, did his best to save people at his hospital in China.

Besides, the eminent cardiologist donated face masks, protective suits and eyeglasses, and face-shields to people from different walks of life in different Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shandong, Chongqing, Kunming, Ningxia, Sichuan, and Anhui.

The Bangladeshi physician also sent these protective gears to support Bangladeshi doctors working on the frontlines of the Covid-19 crisis.

The gears were distributed among the doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals of BIRDEM, DMCH and BSMMU, and other authorities who risked contamination the most, such as health officials at airports and law enforcers.

The philanthropist physician also sent a second shipment of PPEs for Bangladeshi targets and distributed them in hospitals outside Dhaka.

Dr. Misbahul Ferdous is a Ph.D. graduate from the Shandong University School of Medicine and a China Scholarship Council award recipient. He is now working at the Department of Cardiology in Fuwai Hospital and is Vice President of the Asian Society of Cardiology.

Launched in Beijing in 2020, the GYLD builds on the world’s global young leaders’ programs and emphasizes shared values such as open and equal dialogue, intellectual exchange, and inclusive and mutual learning.
