Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr Md Ziauddin has announced that, as part of the nationwide ‘Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) Campaign 2025’, nearly 98.7 lakh children across the division will be given free typhoid vaccinations.
Speaking at a divisional advocacy meeting held on Thursday at Chattogram Circuit House, health officials highlighted the importance of public awareness and called for strong community cooperation. Religious leaders, teachers, and local influencers were urged to actively encourage participation in the campaign.
The vaccination drive will run from 12 to 30 October in educational institutions and permanent vaccination centres, and again from 1 to 13 November in both permanent and temporary centres.
Children aged between 9 months and 15 years (from pre-primary to Class 9) will receive a single dose of the TCV vaccine. Registration via the official website using the child’s 17-digit birth certificate number is recommended. However, children within the age group will still be eligible even if not registered.
The campaign will cover 43,612 educational institutions, 1,281 permanent centres, and 23,796 outreach centres, with 129 mobile mop-up teams deployed.
Typhoid is a preventable infectious disease. According to WHO data from 2019, it infects 9 million people annually, causing over 110,000 deaths—mainly in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The vaccine is safe, with only minor and temporary side effects. The campaign falls under the government’s Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI).
