Although almost two weeks have passed since the completion of 40 days of work under the programme of the extremely poor in eight unions of Tarash upazila of Sirajganj, 974 workers have not received their wages. This has made it difficult for them to run their families. The workers are entitled to 1 crore 55 lakh 84 thousand Tk as wages.

According to the Tarash Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO), 974 workers from Talam, Baruhas, Saguna, Magura Binod, Naogaon, Tarash Sadar, Madhainagar and Desigram Unions of the upazila have worked for 40 days under the programme.

The daily attendance of the workers is 400 Tk per person. The work in this upazila started from 8th February this year and lasted for 40 days till 30th March. Nurjahan, Hafiza Khatun and Bakkar Ali, workers of Naogaon Union of the upazila, said that according to the rules, the wages of these workers are supposed to come to their mobile phones every week. But almost two weeks after the work was completed, they did not receive their wages. However, officials concerned said the payment was delayed due to technical problems.

Sardar Abzal Hossain, a worker of Desigram Union of the upazila, said that the poorest workers depend on their wages for their livelihood and also pay installments to various non-governmental organizations (NGOs). But even after the completion of the work, they are living an inhuman life without getting wages.

Tarash Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Md. Nur Mamun said, “We have sent the demand of money received by the workers of the extremely poor job creation in our upazila. But due to technical problems, there is a delay in getting the wages. Because before, money was given directly through banks. Now money will go to every worker's mobile phone. However, the matter has been reported to the concerned department.”
