8th grade student ‘violated’ in Pabna

An eighth grade student was violated on Monday in Pabna while returning home after attending private coaching class, alleged ralatives. 

The victim was a student of class eight of Ekdanta High School at Atgharia upazila of the district.

Family members of the victim raised the allegation from a press conference at Pabna Press Club on Wednesday afternoon.

Informing that the student had been admitted to Pabna General Hospital due to deterioration of health condition, close relatives of the student at the press conference alleged one Akash, son of Abdullah, a cosmetic shopkeeper, forcefully dragged the student, while returning home attending a private coaching class, into a nearby jute field from the road and violated her.

They said as the girl started screaming awfully, locals rushed to the spot and rescued her. 

Confirming the incident, Ismail Hossain, chairman of Ekdanta union, said similar complaints were raised against Akash earlier also. “An exemplary punishment is badly needed,” he observed.

Headmaster of Ekdanta High School Moniruzzaman Monir said, “The girl is our student. Akash was also a former student of the school who violated the girl, according to the people. If the fact is true, I demand an exemplary punishment for him.”

Though the incident has become a burning issue in the locality, the local thana, however, is yet to be informed. Rakibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Atgharia Police Station said, “We do not know the news of such incident. Nobody informed us.” Atgharia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Akram Ali while contacted told the Bangladesh Post that a rape allegation cannot be confirmed without a medical report.

“If the victim’s parents come to us, all kinds of legal help will be provided,” he assured.
