8m people to get jab under mass vaccination campaign

The Bangladesh Government, ruling Awami League and its associate bodies have chalked out elaborate programmes, including vaccination to 80 lakh people under another phase of mass vaccination campaign, to mark the 75th birth day of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina tomorrow, September 28.

All these programmes will be celebrated across the country in absence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is now staying at Washington DC on an official tour.

Ruling Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the elder daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was born on September 28 in 1947 at her parental home of Tungipara in Gopalganj district.  

Eighty lakh people will be vaccinated against Covid-19 on Tuesday under another phase of mass vaccination campaign.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Sunday at a virtual briefing said that another mass vaccination campaign will resume on Tuesday (tomorrow) on the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 75th birthday, when 80 lakh people will be brought under the vaccination programme on the day.

The vaccine jabs will be administered from 9:am at 6,000 centres across the country, the Health Minister said adding that in the first two hours women above 50 years and physically-challenged people will get the jabs on priority basis.

People will be given vaccine shots at the centers to be set up at 4,600 unions and 433 wards of 1054 municipalities and city corporations. 

“There will be three booths at union level, one at municipality level and three at city corporation level centres”, he said.

Those who have got registered for vaccination but failed to get it timely will get priority during this campaign, said the minister.

“So far, we have collected 5.52 crore vaccine doses and 4.20 crore people have got vaccines,” he added.

Bangladesh on August 7 kicked off its mass vaccination drive to inoculate 35 lakh people in six days.

Sources in the Awami League said, the party and its different associate bodies have also chalked out various programmes to celebrate the birth day of Sheikh Hasina. They party will cut a birthday cake at 12:00am on September and discussion meetings will be held at the party office on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, for the first time of the country’s history, the premier show of a full-length animation film titled ‘Mujib Amar Pita, (Mujib is my Father), which is scheduled to be released on October, will be held on September 28 on the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s birthday celebration.

The first premier show will be held at the Star Cineplex at Basundhara Shopping Mall at the capital.

The movie has been filmed on the basis of a book titled ‘Mujib Amar Pita’, written by Sheikh Hasina as the daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. 

Moreover, the Bangladesh Television (BTV) BTV will air a series of special programmes to celebrate the 75th birth anniversary of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 28 September.

A show titled "Deshratna Sheikh Hasina" will air on at 9:00pm. It will consist of exciting arrangements, including drama, dance, recitation and book reading.

Moreover, 64 children from 64 districts will greet the prime minister from one platform. 

Around 19 children will also cut a cake. 

Child artists will voice multiple songs including "Alo amar alo".

Tamanna Rahman and her team will showcase a dance performance on the poem "Bidrohi" voiced by Nila Rahman. 

Veteran actor and MP Asaduzzaman Noor will recite poetry on the programme.

BTV will also air a special talk show titled "Tarunner Chokhhe Sheikh Hasina", to be hosted by noted actor Ferdous Ahmed. State Minister for Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Mashrafe bin Mortaza (MP), actor Tarin Jahan and writer and media activist Sheikh Saadi will participate in the discussion of the talk show.

Alongside documentaries, talk shows, concerts, exclusive programmes on democracy, youth and success will be aired on BTV, said Program and Managing Director of BTV Jagdish
