85pc people satisfied on Prime Minister: survey

Eighty-five percent people of the country are in full confidence with Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina while eighty percent people are contented with the incumbent Awami League government. On the other hand, only 6 percent people of the country are supporting Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), however, twenty-five percent people have expressed their serious dissatisfaction with the activities of BNP.

These were revealed in a survey conducted by Research International (RI). Professor Dr Abul Hasnat Milton, an Australia expat physician, along with his associates Kazi Ahmad Parvez and Md Mosharraf Hossain, conducted the survey. Research International conducted the nationwide mobile phone survey on the one year performance of the incumbent government. They published the results of the survey at a press conference at National Press Club in the capital on Sunday.

Some 2,2,66 people took part in the survey through mobile calls. Survey team called a total of 8,039 invividuals. Some 5,429 persons received phone calls. However, 41.7 percent people gave their opinions for the survey. The survey report said that among the participants, 80 percent people said the performance of the first one year of the present government is much more better than before.

Eighty-five percent of the participants in the survey expressed their satisfaction with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her leadership as the head of the government. Asked about the speech of the Prime Minister broadcasted on January 7 this year, 85 percent of the participants said they are fully contented and are keeping their trust on Sheikh Hasina.

However, only 3 percent of them said they have no confidence on Sheikh Hasina. Some 11 percent respondents did not give their opinion in this regard. In the survey, 30 percent people voted the Ministry of Education as the most functional Ministry of the government. Twenty-eight respondents voted Road Transport and Bridges Minister ministry as the most functional ministry. Some 16 percent voted the Home Ministry while 9 percent voted the Information and Communication Technology Ministry as the most functional ministry.

Asked who is the most skilled and successful minister, 36 percent chose Obaidul Quader while 29 percent supported Dr Dipu Moni. In the survey it was revealed that 65 percent people even are not interested to discuss about the political activities of BNP. Twenty-five percent of the respondents expressed their serious dissatisfaction with the activities of BNP. However, only 6 percent expressed their satisfaction with BNP.

The report further said BNP is losing its importance in the country’s politics day by day. Respondents were also seen less interested to discuss about Jatiya Party, the former key-ally of the ruling party.
