In a successful operation against wildlife crime, a team of Wildlife Crime Control Unit (WCCU) of the Forest Department has seized a total of 85 different species of wild birds from Mirpur area in the capital.

As the catching, selling and transporting of wildlife are strictly prohibited in Bangladesh, the WCCU carried out an operation at a marketplace at Mirpur-1 in the city on Friday (December 15, 2023) on secret information of wildlife trade. A man was also detained during the operation.

Nargis Sultana Liza, a wildlife inspector at the WCCU; led the operation. She confirmed the news to the Bangladesh Post.

During the operation, the WCCU team rescued squirrels, hill mynas, modan parrot, parrots, lonchura, Gang Shalik (bank myna) and spotted doves.

Nargis Sultana Liza said that the detained person was handed over to the local police station, while the seized wild birds were released into the wild. However, Pahari Mynas (hill myna) will later be released to their proper habitat.
