8 teenagers of Jashore Child Development Center arrested

Eight juveniles from Jessore Child Development Center in connection with the killing of 3 juveniles and injuring 15 others have been arrested.

The investigating officer of the case Inspector of Police Rakibuzzaman of Chanchra outpost in Jashore filed the case and applied to the court on Sunday (August 16) to show the arrest of the detained teenagers. The judge later granted it.

The eight arrested are Anis from Chuadanga, Khalidur Rahman Tuhin from Gaibandha, Humaid Hossain and Mohammad Ali from Natore, Imran Hossain and Monwar Hossain from Pabna, Palash alias Shimul from Rajshahi and Rifat Ahmed from Kurigram.

It is learned that on Saturday, the police sent 5 officers of Jessore Child Development Center to jail. On the same evening, the court granted remand to the five for different terms.

The five officers are Jashore Child Development Center Supervisor (Assistant Director) Abdullah Al Masud, Assistant Supervisor Masum Billah, Psycho Social Counselor Mushfiqur Rahman, Physical Instructor Shahanur and Omar Farooq.

Meanwhile, two committees have started their work to investigate the incident. Five witnesses have also testified in the case.

On August 3, a fight broke out between two groups of teenagers at the Jashore Child Development Center. Those involved in the incident were identified by watching CCTV footage. Then on Thursday afternoon, in the presence of the officers, Ansar members and some teenagers on their instructions beat up at least 18 people. When they fell ill due to beatings and torture, they were left behind. Three teenagers were killed and 15 others were injured in the incident. The bodies of the deceased were brought to the hospital in the evening.

Roka Mia, farher of the deceased Parvez Hasan Rabbi (18), of Maheshwarpasha West Senpara in Daulatpur of Khulna has filed a case with Kotwali Police Station on Friday. The Child Development Center authorities have been made defendants in the case. However, the names of the accused were not mentioned.
