Although 34 candidates are valid in Narayanganj to vie in the 12th National Parliamentary Election with their election symbols, eight candidates are very serious and going door to door for vote begging.
Awami League candidate Golam Dostogir Gazi, who is Minister for Jute and Textile Affairs moving one door to another with the party symbol ‘Boat’ seeking vote, support and blessings for electing him further in the constituency No-1 (Rupganj). The only strongest rival candidate Mohammad Shahjahan Bhuiyan, who is general secretary of Rupganj upazila unit Awami League and recently resigned from upazila chairman post and is contesting as an independent candidate with ‘Kettle’symbol with the hope of winning.
In Narayanganj-2 constituency (Araihazar) Awami League nominated candidate Nazrul Islam Babu, who is consecutively a lawmaker from this constituency, began election campaign with his party symbol Boat to be elected again. Another contestant Alamgir Sikder Loton backed by Jatiya Party (JP) has been campaigning for votes with his party symbol (Plough). The voters of this constituency are experiencing a new circumstance that both vital candidates once were student leaders.
A former lawmaker and an existing law maker have been seriously contesting and intensively campaigning with the hope of Narayanganj-3 constituency (Sonargaon). Awami League backed candidate Abdullah Al Kaiser Hasnat was a lawmaker from his party while Jatiya Party nominated candidate Liakot Hossain Khoka who is consecutively two-term MP and fighting this year for regaining this seat.
Besides, two other constituencies in Narayanganj-4,5 where Awami League nominated candidate AKM Shamim Osman and Jatiya Patry backed candidate AKM Selim Osman, two brothers, have been campaigning for vote but in spite of having other candidates not yet in election atmosphere.A total of 20, 50, 651 voters will exercise their voting right on January 7, 2024 for making a new parliament.
