8 injured in attack on university students in Jamalpur

Eight students of Bangmata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib University of Science and Technology in Melandhe of Jamalpur were injured in attack. Two of them have been sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

The first incident took place in front of a quiet mess in West Nayapara area of Jamalpur city around 10 pm on Friday (March 08).  In the second round, a group of local terrorists attacked the students with indigenous weapons in front of the Banpara cemetery.  The injured are - Abdullah Al Noman, Monir Hossain, Faizur Rahman Fahim, Riyad, Jobaid, Gulzar, Abdul Quader Jilani, Yunus Ali, students of Computer Science and Engineering Department.

Among them, Abdullah Al Noman and Monir Ahmed have been sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment.  Three students are undergoing treatment at Jamalpur General Hospital.  4 people returned home with first aid.

Injured student Fahim said, “I went out for tea at night with my friend and two elder brothers.  Some scoundrels in front of our mess waylaid our way.  Some of them seemed to be drunk.  Then they started scolding and pushing us.  When we introduced ourselves as university students, they became furious and attacked us.  At one stage, my phone was forcibly taken away.  Meanwhile, three other naughty boys in the rickshaw came and joined them.

He further said, while this was going on, the people around froze and the owner of our mess also came down. The rascals continued to argue with the owner. When we went inside the gate of the mess, Samiul Bhai of the second batch of social work was dragged outside and started beating. When the rickshawpuller came and pushed him, he started beating him.

The incident later spread to other students of the university. Then many people came here. By that time the criminals had left. Later, around 10pm we went to talk to the students to bring back their mobile phones. They suddenly attacked us with knives, sticks and native weapons. We didn't know that they were planning to come from there and sit with knives and sticks.  We were all empty handed. 

 In this surprise attack, they sewed clothes and cut my hands with scissors, someone's back and someone's legs.  Some of them attacked us with sticks and bricks.

 Chairman of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.  Humayun Kabir said, I strongly condemn and protest against such attacks on our students.  At the same time, I demand a fair trial by bringing the attackers under the law.

 University Proctor Assistant Professor Yusuf Ali said, 'We are treating the injured students first.  Trying to identify the attackers in this incident.  We will identify and file a case at the police station.

 Mohabbat Kabir, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jamalpur Sadar Police Station said, "After this incident, we visited the scene and were able to arrest 3 people.
