8 held with 34,500 Yaba pills in Ctg

Chattogram District Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) men arrested eight people, with 34,640 pieces of yaba pills conducting separate raids in Pahartali, Lohagara, Sitakunda and Patiya areas of the district.

Chattogram District Police and RAB-7 informed this on Wednesday. A motorcycle and a private car used for transporting yaba were also seized in the raid.

The eight arrested are Jahangir Alam, 42, of West Maijchara area under Sudharam police station in Noakhali, his wife Nurjahan Begum, 32, Jane Alam, 30, of South Hnila area under Teknaf police station in Cox's Bazar, Md. Taher, 20, of Hnila Pankhali area in Cox's Bazar, Md. Arif Ullah, 38, of Daichar area under Faridganj police station in Chandpur, Md. Dulal Mia, 35, of Dhubni area under Hatibandha police station of Lalmonirhat, Md. Ismail, 27, of Ayazpur area under Char Fashion police station of Bhola and Mozammel Hossain, 40. 

Among them, Jahangir Alam and his wife Nurjahan Begum were seized with 14,140 pieces of yaba from Eidgaon Bau Bazar area under Pahartali police station.

Jane Alam was arrested with 1,000 yaba and Md. Taher with 1,700 yaba in separate raids at Bhatiari bus stand area under Sitakund police station.

Md. Arif Ullah was held with 4,000 yaba and Md. Dulal Mia with 4,000 yaba in separate raids from in front of Chunti Forest Range Office under Lohagara Police Station.

Md. Ismail and Mozammel Hossain were detained by Patiya Police men in a raid from in front of Indrapul Bypass Junction with 9,800 pieces of yaba tablets.

A motorcycle used in transporting yaba was seized from Arif Ullah and a private car from Dulal Mia at the time.

Chattogram Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque said that six people were detained with 20,500 pieces of yaba during separate raids in Lohagara, Sitakunda and Patia areas of the district. A case has been filed against them with the concerned police station and they have been sent to jail through the courts.

Meanwhile, RAB-7 Assistant Director (Media) Md Mahmudul Hasan Mamun said that Jahangir Alam and his wife Nurjahan Begum were detained along with 14,140 pieces of yaba in a raid in Eidgaon Bou Bazar area under Pahartali police station and were handed over to Pahartali police station.
