8.3pc GDP at end of current fiscal

Finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Monday said the gross domestic product (GDP) growth of Bangladesh will reach 8.3 percent after the end of the current fiscal year 2019-20. The minister also said Bangladesh will reach double-digit GDP growth by 2024 as the government has taken massive development projects across the country.

The finance minister told this while talking to reporters after a meeting with a European Union (EU) delegation led by its ambassador Rensje Teerink held at the minister’s Agagrgoan office in the capital. “In current fiscal, we are expecting that our GDP growth would reach 8.25 to 8.30. Our GDP will reach 10 percent by 2014 and will be continued,” he added.

Once the mega projects such as Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Karnaphuli Tunnel, and Metro Rail are completed the country’s GDP will reach double-digit easily, he further said. Mustafa Kamal mentioned that one percent GDP will increase from Padma Bridge project. About Rohingya crisis, the minister said the EU will play strong role to repatriate Rohingyas in the Rakhain state of Myanmar. They will work together with the world to send back Rohingyas from Bangladesh, he added.

Bangladesh is undertaking national development plan involving all so that each citizen can take part in development activities and enjoy the fruit of development, he added.
