77 taxpayers accorded reception in Khulna

National Board of Revenue (NBR) accorded a reception to the highest 77 taxpayers Khulna on Wednesday as the recognition of their contribution to the national revenue, reports BSS.

They were accorded reception in four categories – highest tax payers, long time tax payers, highest women tax payers and youth recognised tax payers. On the occasion, Commissioner’s Office of Khulna Income Tax Zone hosted a divisional level reception-giving function at Hotel City Inn with the main thrust of inspiring the taxpayers in paying more tax and creating new taxpayer.

A large number of taxpayers including members of the civil society, professional leaders and tax lawyers were present at the function. Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque attended the function as chief guest and handed over certificates and crests to the best tax payers in Zone of Khulna Tax.

Chaired by Commissioner of Khulna Tax Zone Proshanto Kumar Roy, the function was addressed, among others, by NBR member (Policy of VAT ) Dr. Abdul MannanShikder, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Anwar Hossain Hawlader, Commissioner of Tax Appellate Division Md. Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner (KMP) Dr. KhondkarLutfulKabir, Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT CommissionerateMdMostoba Ali, and President of Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) KaziAminulHaque, addressed as special guests. Additional Commissioner of Khulna Tax Zone Dr. Anjon Kumar Saha delivered the welcome speech. Mayor of KCC Talukder Abdul Khaleque underscored the need for creating mass awareness about more income tax collection in the greater interest of making the country economically self-reliant.

He said many of the affordable people of the society are still afraid of income tax payment due to misconception and wrong counseling by frauds. Many people earn higher incomes in urban and semi urban areas and other places, but they do not pay taxes due to lack of awareness, he added.

NBR member Mannansaid “We have no alternative to enhance tax collection for successful implementation of the need-based development programs for overall development of the nation”. In his remarks, Income tax Commissioner Proshanto gave an outline of the tax collection in the region and attributed that the number of taxpayers are being increased gradually, which is good sign for the nation.
