76 pc progress in Ctg waterlogging projects

76 percent of Chattogram city's drainage projects have been completed.  It has completed the work of bridges, culverts and road side drains and new drains.  After the completion of land acquisition, the rest of the works will also be completed.

 The implementing agency believes that this will relieve most of the city dwellers from flooding in the monsoon season this year.

CDA Chairman M Zahirul Alam Dubhash, Army 34 Engineer Construction Brigade (DG) Brigadier General Mohammad Masud Rahman, CDA senior officials were present on the occasion.

Brigadier General Mohammad Masud Rahma said, ll canal work is in final stage.  Before monsoon so that there is no problem with water flow.  CDA has assisted in recovering vacant land.  Due to different establishments causing problems in work.  Bahaddarhat takes six to one and a half months to work on a utility.  If the canal does not sink, the area sinks.  That is why it is important to clean the drain.  If there is no regulator operator it cannot be started.  Those who need to clean the dirt should do it.

 CDA Chairman M Zahirul Alam Dhobash said, this job was given to someone else instead of the army, it would have taken more time.  After completion of works including CDA and water development, waterlogging will be freed.  City Corporation has some work, public should be aware  I hope there will be no flooding this monsoon.  Sluice gate nearing completion.  Low-lying areas of Agrabad Mother and Child Hospital will not sink.  This problem will be solved once the land acquisition is completed.  Earlier the canal cleaning work was done through tenders under the City Corporation, now it is done through the army.  The remaining 16 canals will be renovated by the City Corporation.  Lt. Col. Shah Ali, Director of the project, said this at an event held at the office of the project implementing organization 34 Construction Brigade on Tuesday afternoon.  In the event, it is known that the work of bridge, culvert and road side drain has been completed, but the work of installation of regulator at the mouth of the canal has been completed 98 percent.  Besides, 67.05 percent of retaining wall work, 30.95 percent of silt trap construction, 18.90 percent of canal bank road construction and 11 percent of footpath construction work have been completed.  Lt. Col. Md. Shah Ali Shah Ali of the brigade said that 76 percent of the project has been completed so far.  Remaining tasks can be completed in the remaining time.  The waterlogging that occurred in the city in the past years will be reduced this time.  Besides, the work of the canals or drains along the important roads has been completed.  If the canals are cleaned before the monsoons, the city dwellers will not have to suffer.  He said, just widening canals or canals will not do, the city dwellers should be more aware.  Different types of household waste, especially polythene material, cannot be thrown away.  Because such objects create obstacles in the way of water movement.  So you should be aware of this.

Its mentioned that the city's drainage project is being implemented at a cost of Tk 9 thousand 526 crores.  The latest increase of 4 thousand crores of this project.  Although the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) is the implementing agency of the project, the 34 Engineer Construction Brigade of the Army is doing the construction work.
