Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB), an organisation under the Ministry of Industries has so far been able to award accreditation certification to a total of 71 local and foreign labouratories, certification organisations and inspecting organisations. The information was disclosed at a seminar organised by Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) on Sunday.
The certification is awarded aiming to increase their institutional capacities, said speakers at the discussion meeting, organised to mark the occassion of World Accrediattion Day-2019 held at the conference room of Ministry of Industries. Speakers said, among 71 organisations, 62 are local and multi-national testing and calibration labouratories, 2 medical laboratories, 2 inspection and 5 certification organisations. Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun attended the meeting as chief guest with Industries Secretary, Md. Abdul Halim in the chair.
Addressing as chief guest, Industries Minister said that the reputation of BAB has now crossed the boundaries of the nation and its recognition abroad is a testamony. Minister advised the manufacturers and exporters to maintaining world class quality while manufactiring goods. He said this in the wake of a target of US$ 60b exports by 2021 and so he urged all stakeholders to prepare accordingly. He said, “Accreditation can play the role of an effective tool in this regard.”
"From procurement of raw materials to the finished products at the consumers' level, supply chain plays an important role," he added.
The Minister later formally awarded BAB Accreditation to the representatives of a local and a multinational testing laboratories.
The accredited organisations are; Germany based Textile testing Labouratory, 'Hohenstein Labouratories Bangladesh Ltd.' and Max Infrastructure Ltd., National Testing, Calibration and Inspection Services Limited (NTCL), who are the standard testing labouratores of construction materials, supplied to 'Ruppur Automic Energy' mega project.
President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industrries (DCCI), Osama Taseer attended the meeting as special guest while Director General (DG) of BAB, Md. Monwarul Islam, Chairman of Max Infrastructure Limited, Engr. Golam Mohgammad Alamgir and general manager of Hohenstein Labouratories bangladesh Ltd., Jhony Yeasmin Kanta also spoke on the occasion. While addressing, DCCI President Osama Taseer said that contribution of international trade in our GDP is 36.5 percent. Bangladesh exports goods to about 200 countries in the world. According to The Chartered Institute Procurement and Supply 70% percent of a company's expenditure goes for raw materials procurement. He urged for diversification of export items for a sustainable economic development. Conformity assessment of a product by an accredited laboratory reduces concerns of international importers.
Secretary of Ministry of Industries Md. Abdul Halim said that besides RMG, other sectors will also get benefits to increase export competitiveness. The Ministry has formulated Leather and SME Policies and these policies will be placed to the Cabinet meeting shortly.
Director General of Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) Md. Monwarul Islam said that the World Accreditation Day is being observed in 195 countries in the world. Accreditation is an international demand and to ensure best quality of products and services such accredited bodies are essential for competitiveness worldwide.
