What is the word that comes to our mind when we think of marriage?!! Well, I don't know about you but I can only think of responsibilities and expectations that are generally associated with marriage.

When you commit to someone, you don’t actually know who you’re committing to. You know who they are today, but you have no idea what this person will be in five years, ten years. Be prepared for the unexpected and ask yourself if you admire this person regardless of the superficial (or not-so-superficial) details, because such details are going to either change or go away at some point.

Devika in her book ‘7 Vows of Marriage’ talks about how marriage undergoes transformation with the perils of time and reaches a position of vantage for either parties.

The book is filled with stories, each unrelated to another but woven around the same theme of marriage and the seven holy vows of marriage. Needless to say the book only deals with hindu, Indian marriages as suggestive from the title.

The author presents her readers with different situations and explains to her what marriage might have to go through and shows that not all marriages survive the vagaries of the circumstances. Recession and job loss of the male partner has been discussed elaborately in two separate stories, my understanding is that the author feels strongly about the subject.

Now coming to the style of the narrative. The language is effortless and will be greatly appreciated by readers who are looking for a quick read, who are not in the habit of reading fat books. The stories are short and has a lot of Indian and Bollywood references. I can already feel it being a hit amongst the crowd that cheers for a good romcom in the theaters.
