7 students injured in blast at Naogaon Polytechnic lab

At least seven students were injured as an explosion occurred at the chemistry lab in Naogaon Polytechnic Institute on Sunday. Three of them were in critical condition.

The injured were identified as Atikur Rahman, Rakibul Islam, Shafiqul Islam Shafi, Niyamul Islam, Touhid Shahriar, Sadiqul Islam Shafi and Rafi Akhter. They all are the third year students of Computer Technology department at the institute.

Fazlur Rahman, principal of the institute, said that the explosion took place at about 5:30 pm when the students were attending a practical examination at the lab. Other teachers and students rescued the victims and took them to Naogaon Sadar Hospital immediately, he said.

Dr Saiful Islam, a surgery specialist at the hospital, said that three of the injured are in critical condition and the three students were sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
