7 medical students suspended, 11 fined for ragging

Seven second-year students of Satkhira Medical College have been suspended for six months for engaging in ragging and violating discipline. At the same time, 11 students including those seven were fined Tk. 5,000 each by the Academic Council and Disciplinary Committee of the medical college.

Among the seven students, three were male and four were female students.The expelled students have been asked to leave the college hostel as well as all academic activities have been banned for them. 

Satkhira Medical College Principal Professor Dr. Kazi Habibur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying second-year students were ragging on newly admitted first-year MBBS students on January 9, 10, 11 and 12. These second year students physically and mentally tortured these new students in the name of ragging. Professor Dr. Kazi Habibur Rahman formed an eight-member inquiry committee to investigate the matter. 

The decision was taken in an emergency meeting of the Academic Council and Disciplinary 

Committee of the Medical College on Monday, March 16 following the investigation report submitted by the committee formed earlier. 

Professor Dr. Kazi Habibur Rahman said that students of Satkhira Medical College will not be allowed to make any disturbance. All efforts will be made to ensure that students can study in a beautiful environment in the college.
