7 killed in Rajbari road accident

Seven people, including six members of a family, were killed and two others injured in a triangular collision among a speeding truck, battery-run auto-rickshaw and private car on Rajbari-Kushtia highway in Chadpur Rail gate area under Kalukhali upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Nasir Hossain, 35, driver of auto-rickshaw, Machhiran Begum, 60, wife of Motaleb Hossain, their daughters Moriam Begum, 45, Morjina Begum 45, Moriam’s daughter Shila, 18, Morjina’s sons Nayan, 6 and Yususf, 8, residents of Pangsha upazila of the district.

Machhiran’s brother Akkas Ali said, “My sister with her daughters and grandchildren were going to Rajbari court area to see her son. The accident took place in front of Chandpur Fire Service Station in Kalukhali Upazila on Rajbari-Kushtia Highway around 9am as a truck rammed into the auto-rickshaw carrying my relatives.”

Confirming the matter to Bangladesh Post, Rajbari Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Salauddin said, “Three people died on the spot and four others died on the way to hospital. The truck involved in the accident was seized but the driver managed to flee the scene.”

Pangsha Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Sumon Kumar Saha said, “The bodies were handed over to their relatives after the primary investigation.”
