Joypurhat detectives have arrested seven members of the kidney trading circle from different areas of Joypurhat. Superintendent of Police Mashum Ahmed Bhuiyan told a press conference at Drill Shed of Police Lines at 12pm on Wednesday that the kidney brokers were arrested in an overnight operation on Friday.
The arrested are Saharul Islam, 38, son of late Siraj of Halgram village in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat, Farhad Hossain Chapal, 31, son of Faridul Islam of Ulipur village, Mosharraf Hossain, 54, son of late Mofiz Uddin of Jaipur Bahuti village and Mokarram Hossain, 54, son of Mubarak Hossain. Shahrul Islam, 35, son of Jahan Alam of Verendi village and Saidul Fakir, 45, son of late Basir Uddin Fakir of Durgapur village. Detective police raided and detained them from their respective homes. In the same operation, Saddam Hossain, 40, son of late Abdus Sattar of Hanail Bambu village of Joypurhat Sadar upazila was also arrested from Gorna village of Panchbibi upazila.
Police super said in a press conference that the arrested the Kidney Trading Circle had been hanging on to the needy people for a long time to take advantage of their poverty. Later, the brokers lured the innocent debtors to sell their kidneys.
Police super also claimed that they were detained on the basis of evidence based on such intelligence information. The brokers admitted in the preliminary interrogation of the police that they were involved in the sale of kidneys. He also said that such campaigns against the brokers will continue to prevent the sale and purchase of kidneys. Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Farzana Hossain, Sadar Circle Mosfiqur Rahman, Panchbibi Circle Ishtiaq Alam and other police officials were present at the press conference.
