Eight others were also given varying terms of imprisonment in the same case.

Sirajganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Kaniz Fatema delivered the verdict, also imposing a fine of Tk 20,000 on each of the convicts sentenced to life.

In default of payment, they will face an additional two months in prison.

The seven handed life terms are Waaz Ali, Abdul Hamid and Arshed Ali; three sons of Moksed Sheikh; Abdus Samad, son of Mokbel Sheikh; Md Kunu and Idris Ali, sons of Elahi Box; and Selim Reza, son of Waaz Ali. All are residents of Potazia village of Shahjadpur upazila.

In addition, the court sentenced Abdur Rahim to two years' imprisonment, while seven others received six months' jail time each for their involvement. According to the case documents, the incident occurred on August 23, 2012, following a long-standing dispute between the family of Osman Goni and the convicts over land ownership. On the day of attack, several members of Osman’s family were assaulted, leaving many injured. Among them was Sabbir, who died while being taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital.

Following the attack, a murder case was filed and police later pressed charges against 15 accused.

After years of legal proceedings, the court finally delivered its judgment more than a decade after the incident.
