7 fishermen rescued, 5 Burmese robbers held

Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) Station Teknaf during their regular patrol arrested five Burmese armed robbers from the sea, 12 nautical miles from Noakhalipara area under Teknaf Police Station in Cox's Bazar at about 3:00 am on Monday.

At that time, seven Bangladeshi fishermen were rescued from their boat. Searching the boat BCG also seized two indigenous single-barreled guns, 6 rounds of ammunition, 10 different types of Burmese sharp  weapons and one engine-powered wooden boat.

The arrested robbers were identified as Md. Bakgulla, 22, Md. Shukur, 20, Ravi Alam, 22, Nurul Amin, 30 and Shafi Alam, 20. All of them are residents of Aripara area of Akiab district of Myanmar.  

A submerged boat of Bangladeshi fishermen was later recovered during the operation. The rescued fishermen are all residents of Noakhalipara in Teknaf.

The arrested robbers, rescued fishermen and seized arms and other belongings were handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further action. BCG will continue to conduct regular operations in the areas to ensure law and order, public safety as well as to prevent forest piracy, drug trade and robbery.
