7 factories fined for polluting Shitalakhya

Narayanganj Department of Environment Office fined seven factories over Tk six crore in a daylong drive at Rupganj upazila for polluting Shitalakhya river and violating other environment regulations. Enforcement wing Director of Environment Department Rubina Ferdous led the drive with law enforcers at different place of Rupganj upazila on Tuesday.

The seven factories that were fined during the raid are Hashem Paper Mill, Purbachal Paper Mill, Ananta Paper Mill, Yunus Paper Mill, Super Crystal Salt, ACI Salt and Afzal Food Product. During the raid electricity supply of the mills were disconnected due to unauthorized functioning of the factories. Most of the factories does not have the permission of Environment Department.

Deputy Director of Narayanganj environment office Sayeed Anwar said that the factories were fined for various irregularities. All the factories were running without Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and dumped their garbage in the Shitalakhya river.
