A court in Cox’s Bazar sent seven policemen, including former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das and Inspector Liakat Ali, to jail on Thursday in the case filed over the murder of retired Major Sinha Md Rashed Khan.

Three of the policemen were remanded in custody for seven days each.

The court of Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Helal Uddin passed the order as RAB investors sought a 10-day remand for each accused.

The court rejected their bail petitions during a hearing of the case in presence of seven of the nine accused.

The court also issued warrant for the arrest of the two absconding policemen.

Faridul Alam, public prosecutor at Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judges Court, confirmed the matter to Bangladesh Post.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah issued the warrant for the arrest of all accused after taking cognizance of the case on Wednesday.

The other accused in the case are Sub-inspectors Nandolal Rakshit and Assistant Sub-inspector Liton Mia, and Constable Shafanur Karim, Kamal Hossain, Abdullah AL Mamun and Mohamamd Mostafa.

Sharmin Shahrier Ferdous, elder sister of Sinha, filed the case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on Wednesday against the nine policemen.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah asked the authorities concerned to submit the probe report over the murder within seven working days.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will investigate the case.

Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check post on July 31.

The Home Ministry formed a four-member committee, headed by Mizanur Rahman, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development), on August 2.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday assured the mother of Major Sinha of proper investigation into the murder of her son and the trial of his killers.

PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said the Prime Minister called up Sinha's mother and consoled her.
