64th anniv of Sputnik-1 launch celebrated

The Russian House in Dhaka organized a week-long program named ‘Russian Space’ dedicated to the 64th anniversary of the launch of the first artificial Earth satellite "Sputnik-1".

Everyone at the programme got acquainted with the photo exhibition entitled ‘The history of space activities in Russia’, as well as took part in the quiz competition. 

A scientific and practical seminar was held at the closing day which was attended by schoolchildren and students from local educational institutions. 

At the closing ceremony, Deputy Registrar of Jahangirnagar Univer­sity Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad made a speech, mentioning the importance of such events for the study of space science and astronomy. 

In return, the Director of the Russian House in Dhaka suggested this kind of educational meetings could help Bengali youth choose their future profession and become the first step towards higher education in Russia.
