649 families to receive PM’s ‘House’ gift in Chattogram

Chattogram district administration is transferring ownership of land and houses to 649 landless and homeless families in the district. The information was given at a press conference in the conference room of Chattogram Deputy Commissioner on Thursday afternoon.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Mominur Rahman said, "Keeping in view the fact that not a single person will be homeless in Mujib's centenary, the Prime Minister's Office has taken steps to provide houses to landless and homeless families across the country with 2 percent land with full government funding. Prime Minister inaugurated the process of allocating houses with 2% land to 69,904 landless and homeless families across the country in the first phase on January 23 this year”.

1,444 landless and homeless families have been provided houses with 2% land with full government funding in the first phase of Chattogram district.

He further said that Hon'ble Prime Minister will inaugurate the 1st phase of the program through video conference on June 20. Under this program, houses will be provided to 649 landless and homeless families in 13 upazilas of Chittagong district.

Deputy Commissioner said the Hon'ble Prime Minister will be connected through video conferencing at Bahalpur village of Betagi Union No. 2 of RanguniaUpazila.

30 families are being rehabilitated in Bahalpur village of Ranguniaupazila.  Various non-governmental organizations and individuals have now come forward to join this unique initiative of the Hon'ble Prime Minister.  So far 120 houses have been constructed in Chattogram district on private initiative.  Besides, big industrial companies are giving grants to the Prime Minister's Shelter Project.  Homes will be constructed for the landless and homeless all over the country including Chattogram with private grant.

Information and Broadcasting Minister, Land Minister, Deputy Minister of Education, Freedom Fighters, Members of Parliament, political personalities and civil society representatives will be present at Bahalpur village of Betagi Union in Rangunia upazila on June 20 at 10.30 am.  After the press conference, Deputy Commissioner Mominur Rahman said, "We are giving houses in two categories, one, those who do not have land or house and the other those who have land but no house.  A list of 9,124 people without land and houses has been compiled. 

Of these, 2,099 people have been given houses officially and 123 people have been given houses privately.  In the next one year, we will all make a home.  We have compiled a list of 7,478 people who have land and no houses.  Activities have not yet begun”.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Mohammad Nazmul Ahsan said the houses being provided include 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, a veranda and a bathroom each.

There is a deep tube well as well for 10 houses Tk1 lakh 71 thousand has been spent to complete the construction of a house in the first phase.  Tk1 lakh 90 thousand has been spent for each house for the second phase.

Additional District Magistrate Sumoni Akhter and other officials were present at the time.
