61 held in DMP’s anti-narcotics drive

 As part of the anti-narcotics drive in the capital, members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested a total of 61 people on charges of selling and consuming drugs during the 24 hours till 6:00 am on Friday (August 18, 2023).  

On information, the DMP’s police and detective units conducted the anti-drug campaign in the city’s various areas, seizing drugs and arresting drug sellers and abusers, said a DMP statement today.

According to a press release issued by the DMP, police conducted these operations against the drug sellers and consumers in different areas under various police stations of the metropolis. They also detained a total of 61 drug traffickers and recovered huge drugs from their possessions from 6am of August 17 to 6 am today.

During the anti-drug operation, police seized 3,056 pieces of contraband yaba tablets, 392 grams of heroin, 50.950 kilograms of cannabis (ganja), 90 bottles of phensidyl syrup and 20 litres of locally made liquor from their possessions, the release added. 

Police filed 40 separate cases against the arrestees in these connections with respective police stations under the Narcotics Control Act.
