Chuadanga District Jail authorities sent a letter to IG prison in Dhaka with a request for taking necessary action as to issue orders to release 60 prisoners from the district jail in order to avoid the attack of coronavirus.
According to Jail sources, of the total prisoners, 8 life term prisoners (in the mean time they served the term for 20 years) and 52 short term prisoners have been recommended for release.
Nazrul Islam, Superintendent of the jail said 534 prisoners are in the jail on April 13. But its accommodation capacity is 300. New prisoners are kept in separate building during coronavirus period. No visitors are allowed to meet the prisoners physically
He also stated that after receiving the government order the recommended prisoners would be released from the jail. It may be mentioned here that the jail guards and officers are not allowed to go out of the jail compound for coronavirus outbreak.
