Six persons were killed, over 100 injured and hundreds of houses vandalized and looted in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah. The law and order in the upazila has been deteriorated and the common people were panicked and started leaving the locality when the rivals have been facing with local arms and weapons public even in front of the low enforcing agencies.

Kallol Khondaker, a supporter of ex chairman in Bogura union parishad Nazrul Biswas, was beaten up and hacked to death allegedly by the supporters of newly elected chairman Safiqul Islam Shimul on Saturday noon. Kallol Khondaker was working at his onion plot at Bogura Paschimpara.
Some Abdur Rahim of Katlagari, Haran Biswas of Kirtinager, Akhil Sarkr and Jasim of village Bhatbaria belongs to incumbent Sarutia union parishad (UP) chairman Mahmudul Hasan Mamun were brutally killed by Mamun’s rival Julfiqar Kaiser Tipu.
The killing incidents took place following attack on the election office at Katkagari Bazer in Sarutia union on December 31 evening.
The attackers injured 10 persons and vandalized the photos and portraits of Bagabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Haran Biswas succumbs to his injuries at in the hospital in same night.
A group of youngmen belongs to Shailkaupa municipality mayor Kazi Ashraful Azam had had stabbed Swapan Sheikh, son of Ahmed Ali Sheikh of Kabirpur village in Jhenaidah municipality in the evening of December 12. He succumbs to his injuries at Dhaka medical college hospital on December 29 morning. A number of young men were also stabbed during the time. Swapan Sheikh was the supporter of local Awami Leader Iku Shikder.
Julfiqar Kaiser Tipu’s men had hacked boat symbolic candidate Jasim and Milon at Bhatbaria village on January 3. Of them Jasim died on the way to hospital, while earlier injured Akhil Sarker died on January 6 and Abdur Rahim had died on January 8 when they were undergoing treatment at hospital.
The supporters of Iku Shikder had set some motorbikes of the supporters of Shailkupa municipality mayor Kazi Ashraful Azam on Saturday afternoon. They also vandalized the municipality office.

When contacted officer in charge (OC) of Shailkupa police station Rafiqul Islam said the total law and order situation is now under control. Additional law enforcers were deployed at various points of the upazila to tackle the situation, OC said.
