6 held for making, selling adulterated spices

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) on Thursday raided Hamidullah Mia Bazar area in Khatunganj of Chattogram and found a factory making adulterated turmeric, chilli and coriander powder.  

A large quantity of adulterated turmeric, chilli and coriander powder was seized from there. Six people were arrested in the raid.

The operation was carried out at Hamidullah Mia Bazar of Chowdhury Building on Thursday.

RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Md Nurul Abchhar said the operation was carried out on the basis of secret information.  During the operation, 850 grams of red chemical, 350 grams of yellow chemical, 20 grams of brown chemical and 800 grams of coal were seized from the mill.

Besides, 286kg of rice husk and whole turmeric mixture, 333 kg of adulterated turmeric powder, 157kg of adulterated chilli powder and 80kg of adulterated coriander powder were seized.  These were reserved for sale.  565kg paddy husk was seized.

"We have learnt that the mill has been making adulterated turmeric, chilli and coriander powder and selling it to consumers for a long time," he said.
