6 held, 90 fined for not using mask in Khulna, M’ganj

Six people were detained and at least 90 people were fined by mobile courts for violating Covid-19 health guidelines in Khulna and Munshiganj and Khulna on Tuesday. 

It was the second day of drives in the areas aimed at ensuring adherence to health guidelines.

In Khulna, four mobile courts fined Tk 12,000 to 20 people and detained six people in the city for not wearing masks. The drives were conducted in Dak Bangla intersection, Daulatpur Bazar, Khalishpur and Chitrali Bazar of the city.

According to the decision of Khulna district law and order committee meeting, people who do not wear masks will be punished.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain presided over the meeting where the decision was taken on Sunday.

In Munshiganj, two mobile courts fined 70 people Tk 5,750 for not wearing masks.

Executive magistrates Md Shihabul Arif and Md Ashraful Kabir led the drives in old bus stand and in front of Munshiganj General Hospital. 

The drives were conducted to ensure wearing masks to prevent the second wave of coronavirus infection, said executive magistrate Shihabul Arif.

During the drives, the courts also distributed facemasks among people and requested them not to leave home without masks, he added.
