State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossenon on Thursday said a total of 6,704 government primary schools with dilapidated buildings are remaining in the country at present.

The state minister said this in Parliament while replying to a tabled query of ruling Awami League MP elected from Barishal Shah E Alam.

The minister said that a list of 1,013 schools has been sent to the demand-based government primary school development project for the construction of additional classroom buildings instead of dilapidated buildings.

Also approved lists for construction of buildings/additional classrooms under primary education development programme in 1,036 schools and sent to Local Government and Engineering Department, Zakir Hossen also said.

The state minister also said that the government has plans to construct new buildings by 2025 in place of dilapidated and half-concrete buildings.

Meanwhile, the construction of new buildings/additional classrooms is in progress in those schools whose list has been approved for construction of new buildings/additional classrooms in place of dilapidated buildings.
