59 DU students receive Dean’s award

Fifty nine meritorious students from different departments under the Faculty of Science of Dhaka University (DU) have been given ‘Dean’s Award’ for their excellent academic results in BS (Hons.) examinations. Besides, ten faculty members have received Dean’s Award for writing book and outstanding research works. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman distributed the awards among the students and teachers at a function held on Thursday at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university.

Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Samad presided over the function while DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal addressed it as special guests. Chairpersons of various departments declared the names of awardees. Chairperson of the Department of Physics Prof. Dr. Supriya Saha gave vote of thanks.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged the students to play an effective role to ensure social justice as well as establish rule of law in the society. He stressed the need for maintaining discipline in every sphere of life to make an elegant society. The students have to prepare themselves as perfect human being with the combination of non-communal, ethical and humanitarian values. He also urged teachers and students to conduct fundamental scientific researches for the betterment of human being.
