55 deaths in a day again

The government reported 55 more deaths from Covid19 on Tuesday, just three days after the same number of victims recorded in a day on Saturday.

During the last 24 hours till 8am on Tuesday, 3,027 new patients were reported and 1,953 patients were released from hospitals.
With that, the total number of cases stood at 168,645 in Bangladesh - 2,151 died and 78,102 recovered so far.

Additional Director General for Health Prof Nasima Sultana said at the daily briefing that they had tested 13,173 samples during the period in 74 labs across Bangladesh.

Of the latest victims, 39 patients died in hospitals and 15 at their respective homes and one on the way to hospital.
Forty-six of them were men and nine were women, and 27 of them were from Dhaka, 12 from Chattogram, seven from Khulna, two each from Barishal, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Sylhet, and one from Mymensingh division.

Some 1,703 people who have died from Covid-19 are male and 448 are female, which is 79.17 percent and 20.82 percent respectively.

Around 46.31 percent of patients have recovered in Bangladesh so far. The death rate at 1.28 percent.
Infection rate was 22.98 percent of the total tests.

Currently, 63,441 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,438 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 318,167 people have completed their quarantine course.

The authorities placed 802 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 16,873 after 15,478 left.

Bangladesh confirmed the first coronavirus death on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
Prof Nasima said there are 6075 beds and 149 ICUs in 16 COVID-19 dedicated hospitals in Dhaka city.

The country has a total of 14,775 beds and 401 ICUs for the COVID-19 patients, she said, adding there is no scarcity of ICUs and beds in the hospital for COVID-19 patients.

She urged people to abide by health rules such as wearing masks, maintaining physical distance and washing hands with soap - to protect themselves from the infection.
