54 rooms of 3 colonies gutted by fire in Kaliakair

At least 54 rooms of 3 colonies were gutted in a fire in Chandra and Sohag tech areas of Kaliakair in Gazipur this morning. The fire broke out on Friday. 

According to locals and fire service sources, the fire first started in the morning from a leak in a gas cylinder in a colony room in the West Chandra Haji Bari area of Kaliakair. Moments later, a fire broke out from one room to another. Thus fire enters the room of one colony from another. On the other hand, the fire started from the power line in the tech area of Sohag. At this time the locals first tried to put out the fire. 

But the flames of the fire spread far and wide. When the locals failed to put out the fire, they informed the Kaliakair Fire Service. Upon receiving the news, the fire service reached the spot and managed to bring the fire under control in two separate places with an effort of one hour. By that time, the televisions, refrigerators, cupboards, chairs, tables, dishes, rice, bedding, money and other furniture in the rooms including 54 rooms of 3 colonies were burnt to ashes.

Upon receiving the news of the fire, Kaliakair Municipality Councilor Khattab Mollah visited the site of Haji Bari area and said that the municipality has given a grant of one thousand rupees to each affected family.

Faruk Hossain, owner of a colony near Haji Bari area, said on his mobile phone that the fire started in the morning due to leakage of gas cylinder in the room of Abdul Quader's tenant Al-Amin. Later, a fire broke out in a colony of Abdul Samad including that colony. About 50 rooms of the two colonies were burnt to ashes.

Anwar Hossain Ainal, a former member of Sohag's tech area, said on his mobile phone that a fire broke out in Pierre Ali's house in the morning. Later 4 rooms of the colony were burnt to ashes.

Saiful Islam, warehouse inspector of Kaliakair Fire Service, said that fire broke out in three colonies in Kaliakair West Chandra and Sohag Tech area around 5.15 am. On the basis of such news, two units of the fire service managed to bring the fire under control in two separate places by trying for 1 hour. During this time several rooms of 3 colonies were burnt to ashes. However, no casualties were reported in the blaze.
