52 fishermen detained in Bhola

A total of 52 fishermen were detained during three mobile court and five drives conducted in Bhola on Monday. Among them, 42 fishermen were jailed and fined. The rest of them were released on bond. 

On the 16th day of the ongoing 22-day campaign to protect mother hilsa across the country, the Lalmohan upazila administration, fisheries department, and police conducted a drive in the Meghna and Tentulia Rivers in Lalmohan upazila of Bhola district on Monday midnight.

Bishwajit Kumar Dev, District Disheries Officer of Bhola, said a total of 52 fishermen were detained during three mobile courts and five drives conducted on early Monday. Nine fishermen detained in the Meghna river were sentenced to five days in jail, and 33 fishermen detained in the Tentulia river were fined a total of Tk 1,65,000, with each being fined Tk 5,000. Apart from this, 10 minors were released on bond.

Eight fishing boats, 35,000 meters of nets, and 70 kg of fish were seized by the administration from the detained fishermen. Such drives will continue for the remaining days of the campaign, said Bishwajit Kumar.
