An event was held in Dinajpur to celebrate the 51st founding anniversary of Dainik Uttara, the oldest daily newspaper in North Bengal (Registration No. Raj-01), along with a memorial discussion in honour of its founding editor, the late Muhammad Mohsin. The programme took place on Wednesday at the editorial office in Ramnagar.

The event was chaired by the current editor, Md. Ahmad Zaki Suman, and moderated by News Editor Md. Minnatullah Minnat.

During the discussion, Abdus Salam, Treasurer of the Dinajpur Journalists’ Union (2936) and the newspaper’s unit chief, called for the immediate withdrawal of the recent ban on the printing, publication, and distribution of Dainik Uttara. In a formal appeal to the District Commissioner, he highlighted that the Department of Films and Publications had certified the paper's regular publication up to October 2024, yet the ban was imposed without prior notice or hearing. He urged the authorities to lift the ban and allow normal publication to resume.

Staff reporters Md. Ismail Hossain, Samin Maliat Aishwarya, Anwarul Islam Babu, Prashanta Kumar Roy, and various upazila correspondents were also present.

Speakers fondly remembered Muhammad Mohsin and emphasised the newspaper’s role in advocating for rural voices and the rights of people in North Bengal. The event concluded with prayers for the late founder and other departed journalists.
