500 Kaliganj people establish cooperative medicos

About 500 people in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenidah have established a cooperative based hospital for the ailing people. Not only treatment, but the hospital named Medicops has been providing advises among the patients and common people free of cost. The number of service receivers has been increasing gradually.

When this correspondent visited Medicops, witnessed that the patients have been receiving treatment in a homely natural environment. Huge people were receiving advises for primary treatment and relevant issues from the health education officer and medical personnel in the learning centre in a room free of cost. An eleven member committee was formed to run the entire activities there, said the organizers.

A house wife of Kaliganj town said she attends primary health learning class free of cost on every week where the common people have been learning how to prevent some diseases. Awareness build up was some of the most important issue there, she said.

Kaliganj press club president Jamir Hossain when contacted, said the activities of Kaliganj Medicops has proven their cordial services providing treatment at a least cost and advises free of cost which does not meant for commercial purposes.

Medicops management committee general secretary Anwar Hossain when contacted said it is only the hospital which established by about 500 local people to ensure medical services to the ailing people. Monetary matter is not considered here as the founders believe in services rather than earnings.

Anwar Hossain said the people in both rural and urban  areas are not aware enough about the health and cautionary measures. The Medicops authorities have been providing way and means to keep everybody physically fit with primary health knowledge free of cost. It will reduce the attack of any disease who attend the heath education classes in the hospital.

Ataur Rahman Miton, one of the founders of Medicops said 500 persons have established hospital to serve local people with services and advises as well purchasing share for Taka 1,050. The founders have been depositing another Taka 50 a month as savings. Any donour might withdraw the share at the end of the year. Their family members might avail the treatment facility at 50 per cent subsidy, Miton said.

Kaliganj municipality mayor Asharaful Alam when contacted said the Medicops has been playing a significant role in providing services among the people when the private clinics have been charging maximum physician for every test, while the Medicops is a blessings for the patient in the locality.
