500 cattle infected with lumpy skin disease in Bhairab

Nearly 500 cattle heads of Bhairab Upazila under Kishoreganj district have been attacked with viral Lumpy skin diseases. 

The marginal cattle farm owners of the districts are, however, worried at the spread of the diseased ahead of holy Eid-ul-Azha. At least 10-cattle head have so far been killed by being attacked with the disease in the upazila recently, sources informed. 

According to sources, like previous years, marginal farmers are rearing 8,816 bulls, buffaloes and goats in 1,090 farms of the district. They are expecting to earn a satisfactory amount of profit by selling the animals before the Eid. 

But, the spread of the Lumpy disease among the cattle heads has made the farm owners panicky. Local cattle rearers opined, 70 percent of cattle-heads of the upazila have been infected with the diseases.  

Amir Hossain, a marginal farm owner of Bhabanipur village under Sreenagar union informed, at first of his calves was attacked with the virus but later on other cattle-heads were also infected with the Lumpyu virus. However, all of his cattle heads were now recovering, he added. 

Rafiqul Islam Khan, Animal Resources Officer of Bhairab Upazila informed, by this time many cattle-heads have been recovered from the disease. 

He added, though 10 cattle heads died by being attacked with the virus at the first stage, now most of those are recovering and none of those die druing the recent days.
