The members of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in several anti-drug operations detained a total of 50 people from various areas in the city on charges of selling and consuming drugs. They were held during 24 hours till 6:00 am on Friday (July 21, 2023).
The DB in association with local police carried out the drives simultaneously at different parts of the metropolis from 6:00 am of July 20 to 6:00am on July 21, says a DMP press release.
According to the press release, in those separate anti-drug raids, police seized huge drugs from their possessions. During the anti-drug campaigns, police seized 11,472 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets, 40 grams and 80 puria (small packet) of heroin, 28.990 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) and 400 bottles of phensidyl syrup from their possessions, the release added.
Police filed 33 separate cases against the arrestees in these connections with respective police stations under the Narcotics Control Act.
